I can’t even to begin discussing how fucked our health care system is in this country. It makes me angry and sad and frustrated. I know, those are my big words…But here is a Ray of Light for the folks in the New York City Restaurant industry. 

Since I was 15, I’ve been ignoring serious coughs and sore throats, pushing through shifts when I should have been in bed, sleeping or drinking excessive amounts of honey lemon tea while watching Ricki Lake. It’s still a slight illness that I suffer from, “The Indestructible Bartender/Server Syndrome”, when applicable. Most of us do it out of necessity, because we really can’t afford a doctor’s visit when all [we think] they’ll do is tell us “stay off your feet” which is impossible. So we avoid both the confrontations. Hopefully, Dr. Ores can change our minds– and wallets.
